Robbie Keane undecided whether future lies with Celtic or Tottenham

• On-loan Spurs striker still unsure about his future
• Neil Lennon puts pressure on Celtic board to make offer

Robbie Keane says he is keeping an open mind regarding his future beyond this season and has not ruled out staying with Celtic.

Keane has little over a month remaining on his loan deal in Glasgow and the Tottenham striker, who earns £68,000 a week, said: “I’m not saying there is a chance or that there isn’t a chance [of staying]. I’m just saying that when I came here we said we would speak at the end of the season if there was an opportunity to do so.

“I’m neither decided nor undecided. I’m going back to Spurs, we will sit down and if something was to happen then we haven’t spoken about that yet. As far as I’m concerned we wait until the end of the season and then, in football, you never know.”

Keane, who will line up for Celtic in tomorrow’s Scottish Cup semi-final against Ross County, added: “I’m not thinking about leaving Spurs or anything else right now. I’m thinking about this game, I’m not concentrating on Spurs or anything like that. I’m a Celtic player, being paid to play for Celtic and my focus and concentration is fully on that.”

Neil Lennon, Celtic’s interim manager, has put pressure on his board, insisting they can afford to sign Keane this summer. “I wouldn’t rule anything out,” Lennon said. “Ultimately it will be Robbie’s decision, whether he wants to stay or go. We will just keep hammering away at him.”

Keane has scored 12 goals in 12 games and Lennon said: “The more positive results, if we’re playing well, the more we might be able to turn his head. We’ll try to convince him. He’s a world-class player, he loves the club, he has shown that already in the short time he’s been here. We’d love to have him.”

Tottenham’s manager, Harry Redknapp, admits taking pills for his heart

• Harry Redknapp says he began needing pills last year
• ‘I’m still taking them regularly,’ says 63-year-old

Harry Redknapp has admitted that he needs to take pills for his heart as the pressure of managing in the Premier League takes its toll.

The 63-year-old Tottenham Hotspur manager said he began taking the pills a year ago but maintained that he had no major health problems.

Writing in the Sun, Redknapp said: “About a year ago I needed to take heart pills and I am still taking them regularly, although I must admit my wife Sandra has to remind me because I get so wrapped up in the game that I’m capable of forgetting just about everything else.

“I am absolutely fine and have no worries about my health but this game can make the most mild-mannered of people explode as when you are sitting on the bench you get eaten up inside from first to last whistle.”

On the stresses of management he added: “After a game I cannot sleep, there is too much going on in my head as I go over moves, think about game plans, think about which player has had a good or bad game – and it’s worse if you lose.

“I can’t have a drink to relax as the most that passes my lips is the occasional glass of red and with three games sometimes played in a week, is it any wonder some can crack under the pressure of 21st-century football.”

Squad sheets: Tottenham Hotspur v Blackburn Rovers

A lunchtime kick-off gives Tottenham a chance to put some early distance between themselves and those seeking to dislodge them from fourth place. Certainly Spurs cannot afford another of those slip-ups at home which have hampered their pursuit of Champions League football next season. Having won at Ewood Park in December, when Peter Crouch scored twice, and given Blackburn’s poor away record, Harry Redknapp’s side should get three points today although his attack will need to improve on last weekend’s barren FA Cup performance at Fulham. A point would satisfy Sam Allardyce. David Lacey
